We Don’t Bake on the First Date.

November 4, 2010

Today I’m excited to share a family recipe with you from the Wagner Recipe Book circa 1984. It’s my mom’s Bisquick Pumpkin Bread. Perfect for the delightful Fall air.

But, before I delve into the great family secrets of sugar, butter, flour via Wagners. You need to get to know my family. We don’t bake on the first date.

First, here we have a classic case of older sibling jealousy over new baby. So oldest and middle throw a temper tantrum because youngest child who got dropped off by the milkman doesn’t have to stand up. Oldest child is really ticked off. His legs hurt so bad from standing that he can’t even look at the camera. Middle child is mimicking oldest child because that’s what middle children do. Youngest child twiddles fingers, smiles and performs a silent “muahahahaha” because she gets her way.

A classic. “Hey Dad, can you take a picture of us in our pajamas because they have feet? Plus, Mom really wants a photo of herself in a bathrobe.”

Thanks. “Hey, can you take another one of older brother with the patch over his eye after he went swimming in saw dust?”

God, he’s an idiot.

Here’s another money shot. “Kids, wear your sneakers because we’re in Hawaii and we will be walking a lot.”

“Ok, now let’s put funny hats on and smile for the camera.”

Some things never change.

“Dad, I’m feeling a little whoozie. What did you say you put in my sippy cup again? Whoa, I just saw a purple dinosaur and it was not named Barney but he did sing that horrendous peanut butter and jelly song.  Dad, that song is the shiz. Gimme another hit of that cup.”

Ok, now everyone erupt into utter hysterics at Uncle Bill because he tried to be funny but he wasn’t but we’re going to laugh anyway.

Alright, now let’s enjoy some pumpkin bread, and say a little cheers to my mom for creating this delicious recipe. She was quite the cook and homemaker.

Mmmm … Is that rum?

She’s totally going to make the thunder clouds follow me around today because I posted a picture of her in her bathrobe not once but three times.

Is this better?

I love the pictures. The first time I met your Mom she had this tiny baby tucked in her arms and we sang. That was Alice. Watching each of you grow into great people has been one of my life’s joys… Please add me to your posts.
