The Tortoise on the Treadmill

February 3, 2011

With it being a new year and all, you are probably dieting. Or maybe you’re one of those people who frequents the gym and you hate January/February because the sloths (e.g. me) are going all out tortoise on the treadmill. Whatever the case it may be, I found this really cool wallet-sized guide for helping with portion control. Genius!

This is perfect for someone like me who shovels their food like it’s their last day on Earth.

Now if I can just shovel humble-sized portions, I will be handy dandy, thin as a rail, invisible behind a phone pole, Kelly Rippa arm-bound and so forth.

In other news, the ‘Puter Hub woke up at 3 am to order me a Verizon iPhone.

Everybody needs a ‘Puter Hub. There should be an app for that.

Since we’re on a health kick today, I made you a smoothie with antioxidant-fighting berries, a potassium-filled banana, protein-enriched yogurt and vitamin-packed arugula. No, that was not a typ-o. Evidently, the new trend in smoothies is to blend up your fruits with a little kale. Perhaps a bundle of fresh spinach or any other leafy green you might have on hand. It’s like a pair of black skinny jeans. Once you go skinny jeans in black, you never go back.

Berry Banana and Arugula Smoothie

  • 8 oz. frozen mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)
  • 1 banana
  • 2 handfuls of arugula
  • 1 cup of water
  • 2 heaping tablespoons of Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons of honey

Place ingredients in the blender. I would recommend adding the arugula first. I should have, otherwise you will need to take the cap off the blender a few times to shove it down there.

Blend until it’s smooth and creamy. When in doubt, add vodka for an extra kick.

One year ago: I was making Black Bean Soup and Stuffed Peppers for the Souper Bowl while my car was being towed.
