Meet Evie

Hello there. Welcome. Thanks for stopping in.

My name is Evelyn. But, my friends call me Evie. If you stopped in to read this, I now consider you one of my friends. Congratulations.

This blog is a small snapshot of my simple little life – one that includes cooking, popcorn, parties, boat loads of wine, re-runs of Beverly Hills 90210, making messes in the kitchen, swearing in the kitchen, travels, a ‘Puter Hub and my family.

I am a twenty something, self-taught cook. I work in the corporate world and use this space to unleash my inner creativity nerd-dom. I learned all things food from my mom and dad. I watched my mom throw things into pots, swear, and miraculously serve a delicious dinner to three starving kids. Every Saturday, I made pancakes with my dad. You can see here that I have a thing for test tasting batter while sporting fun accessories and not wearing pants.

My mom lost a courageous battle to cancer on April 4, 2010. Cancer sucks. But you probably already knew that.

My mom’s love for parties and friends molded me into who I am today. She passed on her kitchen talents and taught me the importance of menu planning, etiquette, throwing a great party, serving fabulous food all the while maintaining a sensational sense of humor. She was a spunky individual and she liked leopard print and pink socks.

My dad passed away from a heart malfunction 16 months after my mom. Death sucks, but I like to think that they are up in heaven together again at a cocktail party reuniting with all of their old friends and family members.

My dad was of engineer mind but taught us the importance of tradition i.e. religiously making us pancakes every Saturday and eggs, bacon and potatoes every Sunday. He talked to strangers in the grocery store line and averaged three trips a day to Home Depot.

My brother will eat a sweat sock if it had cheese on it.  His dog Wilson looks like a freckly face kid on the playground. He can shed on command.

Then, there’s my sister. I am her #1 outgoing call on her speed dial. We like to eat ice cream and talk about clothes or boys or clothes and boys. One time she ate a whole bowl of sour ice cream and didn’t notice it was sour. Gross. We got free ice cream because of it.

I married the ‘Puter Hub almost four years ago. He is from Georgia where he learned to deep fry mayonnaise and marinate green beans in bacon fat. He brews me coffee every morning to the point that I do not know how to use our coffee pot. He cleans my kitchen and occasionally snaps photos of the food I make. He makes a mean frozen pizza.

So there you have it. In a nutshell. You can follow me on Facebook and Twitter to learn more about my adventures navigating adult-hood while maintaining my sanity eating my feelings. Or, you can just stop in on occasion to say, Hi.

Thanks for reading. Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you back soon.
